March 2005 Recap- Pioneer Town/Southwest Star-B-Q

Greetings 109ers

It’s been said that rain will go away and come again another day.

We did do a make up ride Easter Saturday to Pioneer Town.  Even though it was Easter weekend thirteen bikes showed up to enjoy a leisurely ride to Pappy and Harriet’s Caf?  It was a beautiful day as we headed up the 15 Freeway to Apple Valley and out over the 18 to our destination.  Even Jeff Neel found us about halfway up at a gas station.  He could not resist the opportunity to ride on such a wonderful day.  This was to be a pure ride, with no meetings other than a safety meeting.  There were a few water traps and sand traps but all were fairly minor.  Even “Mother Wind” cooperated on our return ride down the 62 freeway to the 10 without a hint of wind! The burgers and the company were worth the ride even on this holiday weekend.

Turning right around the following week the annual trek to the Southwest Star B Q went this year to the hometown Of Our very own Star Touring and Riding Association’s birthplace, Tucson Az.  Yamaha Motor Corporation was there with two big semi’s full of motorcycles.  Also somewhere around 350 of your closest friends from chapters around the Southwest attended.  The Radisson hotel provided great two room suites to lounge in, but there was not much time to “Lounge”.  Kartchner Caverns, Tombstone, and the National Park were cool places to go when not attending the Reception on Friday, the LOS Breakfast, the Show and Shine, Bike games and the Annual Auction for “Feed the Children”.  Actually I don’t remember any spare time.

If anyone has been lucky enough to see “Shark” and his auctioneering antics, you knew this auction would be one to be remembered.  Shark had been challenged to do some singing so he auctioned himself off to the tune of over $1500.00 dollars.  This was not just singing, the more money we donated the more we got. A second song and Shark dressed in a grass skirt and a coconut bra was a hit!  I’m not sure if his singing qualifies him to be a singer or the grass skirt and bra qualifies himself as the fairer sex, but it was sure fun!

Remember you don’t know what you are missing unless you come out to play.  For me this weekend was an adventure adding about 1040 miles to the “rocker” qualification totals for the year for all who attended.

Remember our next ride to Calico next month.  There’s going to be some valuable raffle prizes you will not want to miss.  We will be riding out of the Hometown Buffet parking lot at 9:00 am sharp with a stop at Peggy Sue’s for food and our meeting before getting to Calico.

We have now generated More than $2100.00 from Debi’s Ride for Children.  Remember this is not over yet. T-shirts and ride pins are still for sale and we are looking to hit our goal of $3000.00 by June at the awards picnic for the kids.  Please give all that you can for this special donation to Hillview Acres.  June 18th will give us an opportunity see these kids up close and personal.  Also remember “Chik Fil A” is providing all the food on this day.  Please mark you calendar in BIG RED LETTERS to attend this event.  It will be one you will never forget!!
