October 2005- Glen Oaks

Greetings everyone,

Another ride has come and gone.   Twenty two bikes lined up to greet the day in anticipation of the ride. As usual we met at YOC with Jay providing donuts and Starbuck's coffee.  Another beautiful day greeted us with sunshine and mild temperatures. This was going to become a "Fat" Saturday for me.  Our ride was to Oak Glen but a stop at the Farm house in Beaumont for breakfast precluded that destination.  The meeting was for several reasons, not the least of which was great food.  We had the great honor to celebrate one of our fallen members.  Mike Faire recently passed on  and National has a committee recognizing those fallen members. The honor for me was to present an award from Star Touring & Riding Association remembering Mike and his dedication to the Mission Statement that all of us live by.  This award was presented to Lupe and her son and daughter at this meeting in his memory.  Lupe commented that Mike had been sick for many years and told us that he might not have long to live.  Lupe believes when Mike met up with members from 109 and joined the chapter that it extended his life by 10 years instead of a few months.  His passion for motorcycles and the loyalty of friendship found with you, the members of 109 gave him a quality of life everyone seeks.  His sickness was kept secret to most of us, and all you ever saw was a smile and that engineer's hat from him. Rest in peace Mike......

Other items discussed were some modifications to venue for Debi's ride to include some type of memorial ride for fallen members in support of the Mariposa Foundation that Mike and his family support.  More information will be forthcoming.

Ok now we have donuts and coffee at YOC and country fried steak and eggs at the Farmhouse. My tummy is getting full...

Leaving Beaumont and striking out for Oak Glen was smooth with curvy roads, cool weather, and great sunshine greeting us.  Apple season was in full swing with cars lined up and down the road and people picking fresh grown apples right from the trees as we made our way to Oak Glen.  Oak Glen greeted us with a packed house.  People were everywhere!  Parking was at a premium.  Even the sides of the roads were jammed.  We made it into the parking lot without mishap and I proceeded to look for the one thing needed to top off donuts and breakfast.  Hot Apple Pie and Ice Cream!!!  Apple Annie's serves a chunk of pie and Ice cream that goes on a platter (no little saucers) that even I found hard to finish.  OK OK I have now officially exceeded my caloric intake for at least two days, but It was great!

With full belly in place and my motorcycle crying for relief from the extra weight we headed home continuing through the rest of apple country, out to the 138 to the 215 into Devore and back to YOC.
