Palomar Observatory- November 2008
In
November we took a ride to the Palomar Observatory located in north San
Diego County. This observatory is a world class center for astronomical
research. It has five telescopes that are used during the night on a
regular basis for a wide variety of astronomical research programs.
We started with our usual chapter meeting that included officer
nominations, it was announced that if anyone wanted to run for president
or vice president may do so and this was the time to nominate yourself or
someone else, as it turns out Gary and Ron decided to go at it for another
year. We also talked about some of the things that we were thinking about
for next year, like starting Debi’s Ride 2009 earlier in the year. We
mentioned the ride committee and other things that we may need some help
in. It is our hope that we get enough volunteers to make 2009 as smooth as
2008 was.
After breakfast we took off for the ride. It was a cold day for a ride in
the mountains so it was a good ideal to wear our leathers. If you haven’t
done this ride, you don’t know what you are missing. This ride is famous
for motorcycle lovers all over the world. For it’s winding roads, switch
backs that have various degree’s of angles.

For the experienced rider this makes for a good challenge and for the
beginner, well let’s just says you stay focused and under the gloves you
will have white knuckles. Dragging the pegs (floor boards) is common along
with the clean air, smell of the pine trees and beautiful scenery.
If you are reading our ride recaps for the first time and are thinking of
joining us, read the other recaps, view the rest of our website to help
you with your decision, then come out and have some fun.
See you all at Calico.
