Not much to say about Decembers ride. We had our usual chapter meeting
and then it was time to ride. It just so happened to be real cold that day.
I think down in Rancho Cucamonga it was about 60 or 58 degrees! And the ride
was supposed to be to Peggy Sue’s Restaurant and then Calico Ghost Town.
We did have about six brave souls attempt the ride. Chris Verhalen told me
later that it was 20 degrees going through the Cajon Pass, too cold for me
folks. As it turns out they only made it to the restaurant and then came
back. I guess it was cold
.
Here’s some history on the Peggy Sue’s Restaurant.
One of the many jewels along Historic Route 66 is Peggy
Sue’s Diner, a
wonderful blast from the past. Peggy Sue a Hollywood starlet, boasting over
100 movies ad commercials, left the limelight for a simpler life opening in
1954 a little diner in Yermo. Though she left Hollywood, Hollywood didn’t
leave her. Movie star friends that she worked with came to visit her here
and are now part of this restaurant’s history with an impressive collection
of signed photographs and newspaper articles on the walls. Hollywood whimsy
is everywhere from life-size James Dean greeting customers at the hostess
desk to Marilyn Monroe and Elvis rocking out to the jukebox.
Well maybe next time folks, if the weather is good I look forward to
visiting this wonderful place for history and early pop culture.
