KERN RIVER OVERNIGHTER- May 31st-June 2nd

Every year we plan an overnighter to a location that we may have been to before or a new location that everyone voted on in one of our ride committee meetings.

This year we all decided to go to an old favorite the Kern River. “The Kern River is a river in the state of California, approximately 164 miles (264 km) long. It drains an area of the southern Sierra Nevada mountains northeast of Bakersfield. Fed by snowmelt near Mount Whitney, the river passes through scenic canyons in the mountains and is a popular destination for whitewater rafting and kayaking. It is the only major river in the Sierra Nevada mountain range that drains in a southerly direction.” (wikipedia.com)

We all met in the morning for our long ride that took us about three hours. We took several gas stops and rest along the way. We had no reason to hurry. Once we got there we realized why this is an old favorite for overnighters. It’s just plain beautiful.

We stayed at the Sequoia Lodge; this small but quaint place is right on the river. Across the street are a small country store and a wonderful steak house. So after we all got to relax, we went to the stake house and had some great food. The next morning we headed up the mountain to the Ponderosa. This was a great ride; it took us up some of the most beautiful country with Giant Redwoods, Waterfalls, twisties and huge rock formations.

We all had a great time; one of our members even brought his UTV (Rhino) to ride off road in the mountains. The whole weekend went off without a hitch. The only problem was, we had to leave.
